You’re deep into fall semester. Pledging is killing you. School is killing you. You feel like you’re drowning in a million things.
Everyone told you to get overly involved in your sorority so that you could make new friends and add leadership positions to your growing resume. Unfortunately, you feel like you live, breathe, sleep in your sorority and textbooks, and never have time to just enjoy life.
Don’t worry! You’re not alone in the mid-semester crisis. Most college students, Greek life or not, feel this way at some point, including me.
Here are my top 5 tips for surviving sorority and school overload:
1. Give yourself an hour of “me time” every single day
Whether you consider me-time to be working out, watching Netflix, or just lying on your bed eating cake, it is crucial to allocate a break into your hectic life. At some point, you will crash and burn if you don’t relax! Always remember that it is just college and you will survive.
2. Embrace your inner child and give yourself a bedtime
Remember those nights when your parents forced you to go bed at 8:30? Yeah, not a highlight for me. Now that you are an adult living on your own, you rarely go to bed at a reasonable hour, especially with sorority events and late-night study sessions.
I recommend giving yourself a set bedtime in order to get your sleep cycle back to normal. Try to get around 8-10 hours of sleep each night for one week and see how you feel.
3. Show your body some love
College is a hectic time for all of us and this frequently leads to us forgetting to treat our body with the love and care it deserves. Whether you go to the gym for an hour a day and break a sweat or you cook up a nutritious lunch full of protein and fiber, your body will get stronger and fight stress better if you treat it right.
4. Find a hobby aside from your sorority or school
Although you may feel overly involved as it is, incorporating a hobby that you are passionate about into your week will not only make you feel happier, but it also simply takes your mind off of all your obligations.
5. Carve out time for a weekly girl’s night
You need your girlfriends. You also need to hang out with your girls more than just once a month. Whether girl’s night consists of baking cookies and cramming for a marketing test or going out to a nice restaurant, you will feel much more on top of your life with your gals by your side.
How to you handle a mid-semester crisis?
Even though life is chaotic and fast-paced, you need to remind yourself that you’re totally capable of managing all of your commitments while having the college and sorority experience.
