Read on for the many goals I have heading into the new year!
Here is one thing I am absolutely sure of: 2018 was a year of tremendous growth, it was also a year of tremendous ass kicking (mainly mine).
I’m not usually one for making or keeping New Year’s resolutions but here is something I can promise, I am ready to kick 2018’s ass out and make way for an even greater 2019!
*Time to celebrate!*
Like I said, I’m not really a resolution girl; I’m more of a “general ideas and direction for the next 365 days” kind of person. I’m not going to beat myself up if I don’t rigidly adhere to my goals, but I am going to at least try and set some goals. So, without further ado, here are 19 things I want to get out of 2019:
1. Take better care of myself
Not just physically — I’m talking mind, body, and soul! I’ll be learning more, self care-ing more, and leaning in to my goals.
2. Pay it forward
It’s so important to be kind and generous to those around you — including those you don’t know! Whether I’m spotting the person who is a few dollars short in line in front of me or just helping someone carry groceries to their car, I want to put more good into the world this year!
3. Keep the plans I make
Hello, my name is Kate and I’m a flake. I really don’t know why I’ve been like this in the past but I do know that my flakiness will absolutely stop this year! I want to take every opportunity I get to go out and have fun with my girls, especially during the last few months of my college career!
4. Be more honest
No more beating around the bush! Let’s put it all out on the table this year, no matter what that means.
5. Find a fulfilling life path
This one is a doozy, but as a soon-to-be college grad I really want to focus on finding something I love doing and do it! In an effort to accomplish this, I’ll be trying new things and really reflecting on what I enjoy and what different activities do for me happiness-wise.
6. Immerse myself in the arts
Sorry, can’t hang out I’m going to an art museum…wanna come?? There are so many great museums I haven’t been to, and I’m vowing to visit them this year.
7. Start my day earlier
Sure, sleeping in is cool but have you ever seen a sunrise? (Staying up all night to see one doesn’t count, guys.)
8. Keep in touch
I’m that type of friend you haven’t seen or talked to in years but when we’re together it’s like nothing has changed. Here’s what I want to change: I want to keep in touch regularly through all those years and really nurture my older friendships. It’s something I definitely need to be better about doing!
9. Document life more
Pictures, videos, and writing everything down! Social media is a built in documentation tool, so if I’m going to be on there anyway, I might as well use it for some positive reasons.
10. De-clutter every chance I get
A clean space is a clean mind! I want to find peace and clarity this 2019!
11. Learn a new skill
Hopefully it’s cooking but any new skill will do.
12. Unplug more often
I’m just so sick of my cell phone sometimes! The benefits of unplugging are many, and I want to give it a shot in 2019.
13. Be more current on current events
Ever feel like that dummy at family dinner when everyone is talking politics and you have no idea what’s going on? Because same. Not this year! I’m going to read trusted, reliable (read: factual) news sources and keep up to date on what’s happening in the world.
14. Become more active in activism
I know what I stand for, so now I’m going to actually stand for it. Year of women in power and year of me being a powerful woman! If you want to do the same, read our guide to becoming a student activist.
15. Be wiser with my money
AKA become an extreme couponer and stop eating so many tacos. Who’s with me?
16. Also, be more thriftless
In 2019 I want to stop worrying so much about money and splurge when I want to splurge! I work hard and I deserve it! I realize this seems opposite from #15, but sometimes you need to treat yourself guilt-free, and I’m vowing to do that.
17. Make an effort to see my extended family more often
I love these people, but life gets in the way and we all get busy. No more! I will visit the people I love as much as I can in 2019!
18. Be risky
If ever there were a time to take a chance it’s now! I’m going to take deep breaths and be brave enough to take some serious risks in 2019.
19. Celebrate every moment
I’ve said this before and I can’t say it enough! Sometimes I remember that it’s a miracle I am still alive and living the life I live. If you think about it, you will realize this is true for you too. I’m going to be more celebratory this year, because there is always something to celebrate!
Happy New Year to all CF readers! I hope it is filled with all your favorite old things and even better starts to ~something new~.
